About this blog

This is a gameblog following my progress through the Nintendo DS game, Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute. Mostly I'm transcribing puzzles so I can use machine translation (Google Translate) to help me better comprehend what the puzzles are actually asking.

Puzzle 001: The Hidden Message

ナゾ001 隠されたメッセージ
頼むしき我が友人レイトンよ。これは
優れた君の才能を見込んでの頼みだ。
決して冗談ではない。落ち着いて聞い
て欲しい。実は町に謎の巨人が現れて
暗い夜霧の中で建物を破壊するという
大事件が起きている。君ならばきっと
最悪の事態を食い止められるだろう。
今は自宅で君の到着を待っているよ。

Leighton threshold I ask my friend. This is expected to ask for you great talent. No means a joke. I want to listen calmly. Major event that is going to destroy the building in the night fog and dark mystery in the town actually giant appeared. Stop the worst would be if you bet. Now I am waiting for the arrival of you at home.

Notes on puzzle
The text is the content of the letter itself. The instructions for the puzzle are basically, "There is a hidden message in the letter Layton received from his friend Clark Triton. What is it?" The letter sets up the plot for the game, calling Layton to Clark's hometown to solve the mystery of a giant being that is smashing it up.
As a language puzzle, it must be solved in Japanese, so the letter translation isn't going to be of any use (except perhaps to introduce what's going on.) The answer is composed of 8 hiragana/punctuation letters. It's easier to solve in-game when the furigana readings over the kanji are available.
